What Pingr is

A free network diagnostics service. You give it a destination, it runs a test from its own server or from your browser, and it shows you the result. No account is needed and none is offered.

Use it on things you have a reason to test

You may not use Pingr to:

  • scan, enumerate or map networks you do not own or administer
  • send repeated or automated tests at a third party in a way that burdens them
  • probe for vulnerabilities or reachable services on somebody else’s infrastructure
  • route around access controls, or reach an address that Pingr declines to test
  • break any law that applies to you or to the destination you are testing

Testing a host you do not control is normal and expected — checking whether a website is up is the whole point. The line is between asking a question and conducting reconnaissance, and rate limits, a scanning tripwire and a refusal to accept port ranges or bulk targets are all there to keep the service on the right side of it.

Automated use

The web interface is for people. There is no public API in this version, and scripting the interface to run tests in bulk is not permitted. If you need programmatic access, write to abuse@pingr.com and describe what you are trying to do.

No warranty

Pingr is provided as is. Results are a measurement from one place at one moment, and network conditions change constantly — a result here is evidence, not proof. Do not rely on Pingr as the sole basis for a decision that matters, and do not treat it as a monitoring or alerting system; it is explicitly not one, and it will not tell you when something breaks.

There is no uptime commitment. The service may be unavailable, rate-limited or withdrawn at any time.

Liability

To the maximum extent the law allows, Pingr and its operators are not liable for any loss arising from use of the service or reliance on its output.

Availability and limits

Access may be limited or refused for any source or destination, with or without notice, where that is necessary to keep the service usable or to stop it being used against a third party.

Privacy

What is and is not recorded is described in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

Changes

These terms may change; the date above will change with them.
